Custom Orthotics at Ferro Foot & Ankle
Personalized Support for Pain-Free Living
At Ferro Foot & Ankle, we understand that no two feet are the same, and neither should be the care they receive. Custom orthotics are specially designed to provide the support, alignment, and relief your feet need, tailored precisely to your unique foot structure and condition. Whether you’re dealing with pain, discomfort, or the need for additional support, custom orthotics can help improve your overall foot health and quality of life.
How Are Custom Orthotics Made?
Dr. Nick Ferro and his team take great care to ensure your orthotics are crafted to the highest standard. Here’s what you can expect during the process:
Step 1: Taking the Impression
Using a foam impression cast, we carefully capture a detailed mold of your foot. This mold records every aspect of your foot's structure, including the arch, heel, sides, and toe alignment. The result is a precise negative cast that ensures the orthotics are tailored to your unique anatomy.
Step 2: Sending the Impressions to the Lab
Once the impressions are complete, they are sent to a specialized orthotics lab along with a detailed prescription. The lab uses the mold and prescription to craft orthotics that meet your specific needs. Turnaround times vary but typically range from two to six weeks depending on the complexity of the modifications.
Step 3: Fitting Your Custom Orthotics
When your custom orthotics arrive back at our office, you’ll return for a fitting appointment. Dr. Ferro will ensure the orthotics fit your shoes perfectly and feel comfortable. You’ll receive detailed instructions on how to break them in gradually to maximize comfort and effectiveness.
What Are Custom Orthotics?
Custom orthotics are medical-grade shoe inserts that are crafted to align and support your feet. Unlike generic insoles, they are made specifically for you, addressing your unique needs and helping with conditions such as:
Flat feet
Plantar fasciitis
Arthritis
Bunions
Sports injuries
Custom orthotics can provide relief from pain, improve mobility, and prevent further complications by redistributing pressure and supporting proper foot alignment.
Breaking in Your Custom Orthotics
To ensure your orthotics are comfortable and effective:
Wear them for 4–6 hours a day for the first week.
Gradually increase the wear time each day.
Return for a follow-up appointment in 3 weeks to make any necessary adjustments.
Dr. Nick emphasizes, “Custom orthotics are not only designed to support your feet but to offload pressure points and improve alignment for long-term comfort and health.”
